It is used in the eye to inhibit inflammation and reduce swelling and pain. Benefits: Prednisolone acetate is an ophthalmic corticosteroid used in the eye to inhibit inflammation and reduce swelling and pain by blocking the production of substances that can trigger allergic and inflammatory actions. For use: Dogs, cats & horses Strength/Size: 1% Active ingredient(s): prednisolone acetate Cautions: This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals, but it is a common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals. Inform your veterinarian if your pet is currently on another eye drop, or if your pet has glaucoma, diabetes mellitus, or hyperadrenocorticism. Do not use in viral or fungal infections of the eye prior to the start of healing. Do not use if an ulcer is present or suspected on the eye as it could cause the ulcer to worsen or rupture. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication or supplements you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.
